Biography

Willem Dafoe was born July 22nd, 1955 in the North of USA: in Appleton, Wisconsin. Eearly he was interested in acting and so he applied after High School at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where he learnt "acting". But after a short time he realied studying there was not satisfying cause it was too theoretical and so he joined a theater group in Milwaukee, traveling thorough USA. When they stopped in New York he joined the "Performance Group" in Manhattan, where he met his de-facto-partner Elizabeth LeCompte. They both foundet the "Wooster Group", an experimental theater group.

Until today Willem Dafoe loves the theater, but since the 80's he takes the chance to take part in movies. He had his debut in the movie "Heaven's Gate", just a statist role, but his first main character he played in "To Live and Die in L.A." in the year 1985. The biggest success was the character Sgt. Elias in Oliver-Stone movie "Platoon". He was nominated for an Oscar for the best supporting role. From now on Willem began working together with some great directors, f.e. with Martin Scorsese in "The Last Temptation of Christ" where he played....Jesus!

2001 Willem Dafoe was nominated for an Oscar the second time - again as best supporting role in the movie "Shadow of the Vampire". In the last time he was to see in the Spider Man movies, Once upon a time in Mexico and Aviator.
