about John Williams

John Towner Williams, an american composer, was born February 8th, 1932 in Flushing, New York, as a son of an orchestra musician. With 3 years, he learnt reading notes. 1948 he moved to Los Angeles with his family and visited the University of California and studied composition. After being at the Air Force, he moved back to New York and was at the Juilliard school, learning playing the piano, and besides that woking as a Jazz-piano-player. 1951 he published his first piano sonate, some more classic music publicaions following.

1972 he wrote the music vor "The Poseidon Adventure", but really famous he became with his soundtrack to Jaws and later Star Wars (1977). Until today he worked together with Steven Spielberg multiple times (E.T. Indiana Jones, Schindlers list, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, Munich...just to name few) and finished the music for the Star Wars prequel trilogy also. Today, John Williams is - with 5 oscars and 45 nominations - one of the most successful soundtrack composers of all time. He holds record in the American film institute list of soundtracks (with Star Wars on rank 1).

But not only soundtracks, he's composing. He also composed the fanfares for 4 olympic games, multiple concerts for solos and whole orchestras, symphonies and the musical Thomas and the King.
