About the Jedi

The Jedi Order was created at a time, when also the Galactic Republic was created, which was at about 25.000 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin). Over 25.000 years, Jedi solved conflicts mostly with negotiation (they were negotiators for the Justice ministery of the Galactic Republic), but if not working, also with "agressive negotiation" (negotiation with their weapon, the lighsaber - Jedi have a weapon, which is built by each Jedi himself in Padawan age. Thus, every lightsaber is individual with other cristals, that give the color).

The Jedi Order was destroyed 19 BBY by Sith-Lord Palpatine, who spoke out the Order 66 and so started the Jedi Purge. The Jedi were called public enemies, the Jedi Temple was destroyed. Over 20 years later, two of the last still living Jedi-Masters, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, teached Luke Skywalker to use the force. Luke could get Vader back to the light side of the force and so make Vader kill the Sith Lord Palpatine. Luke Skywalker later founded the New Jedi-Order, which should protect the New Republic.

All Jedi can use the Force. Because Jedi Masters lost some of their Padawands to the dark side, they recruit the younglings in a very young age, when they easily can learn to not love single people, like family or a lover. They were not allowed to have a partnership based on love, because passion is an emotion possibly leading to the dark side. Luke Skywalker changed this rule later - in the New Jedi Order, Jedi were allowed to marry and have a family.
